Anglican Rosary Beads, Greenstone & Paua Shell Beads
Beautiful deep green nephrite jade and iridescent New Zealand paua shell beads make up this unique Anglican rosary (also known as Christian prayer beads). The rosary feels cool and smooth in the hands and is well-made for years of prayer.
I've used 8mm round greenstone (nephrite jade) beads for the 4 sets of week beads, and double-sided paua shell heart beads for the cruciforms and invitatory bead. The colors in the abalone shell known as paua is distinctive to New Zealand's cold southern waters, vivid greens, blues and purple with a gorgeous luster.
The rosary begins and ends with a lovely gold pewter Talavera cross with a lightly oxidized finish to bring out the detail. Talavera art is a fusion of Mexican and Spanish folk art styles and this cross has a raised pattern on the front, with the same pattern engraved into the reverse side. Made from culinary grade pewter which is nickle and lead free, the oxidizing gives the cross a lovely antique look.
Length: 32cm / 12.6 inches
Beads: 8mm jade rounds, 12mm paua shell hearts
Cross: 2.5cm / 1 inch
This rosary is a pleasure to use, and looks lovely on a bedside or coffee table and would make a thoughtful gift for a friend. It comes in a handmade (by me) lined cotton rosary pouch to keep it in.
